Wilderness Volunteers is a non-profit organization committed to organizing and promoting volunteer service to America’s wild lands. Their volunteer projects work with public land agencies, including the US Forest Service, National Park Service, the BLM, and the US Fish & Wildlife Service, to address current concerns and backlogged maintenance tasks.
Wilderness Volunteers had a custom-built website that served their needs for many years but relied on old technologies and was very difficult to update. The old website was not designed to be viewed on mobile devices and had begun to show its age. Wilderness Volunteers not only wanted a new look and feel that worked well on mobile devices, but they also wanted a site that could be easily updated by themselves without the need of a web designer for every small change they wanted to make.
RainStorm worked with Wilderness Volunteers to add a blog with news and information about the organization, as well as create a photo gallery with project pictures. A prominent feature of their redesigned site was the ability for volunteers to register for projects and pay the associated fees.
For the organization, it was important that RainStorm helped them to manage documents and resources that need to be shared between the staff and accompanying volunteers. Installing a payment portal allowed for patrons to make financial donations to the organization, along with promoting increased brand awareness with an online store to sell merchandise. Wilderness Volunteers’ new website exhibits an organic design emphasizing their work with nature while also using modern, clean and minimal design techniques to showcase their organizational aptitude.
